If it were up to me almost all of my designs would have a fire pit somewhere in the yard. While it may not be ideal for most front yard landscaping ideas, almost every backyard deserves one. There's just something about relaxing around and staring into a fire. And especially in your own backyard.
There are enough of styles of free standing and built in firepits to fit the decor of most any garden or landscape design. Free standing or above ground models have gained popularity as an economical way to add one to an existing or new garden. And they look great as ornamental decor in the garden.
Backyard fire pits are often a smaller part of an outdoor patio, pond, or sitting area. As a design element fire pits are usually very ornamental and can be applied in most landscaping ideas as focal points. Just keep in mind how close you place plants and other elements to the actual fire source.
