Closet Remodeling Need Not Be Expensive | Closets

For homeowners who are hands on in home improvement projects or people moving to a new home, there’s always the urge to redesign certain rooms where they spend most of their time. One important part of the house that is often subject to renovation is the bedroom and when this room is remodeled, the closet gets redesigned as well.

There are two options to choose when fixing the closet. It’s either you get a custom closet or do a closet remodeling project. The closet can be a walk-in type or a built-in one. Additionally, you can have a do-it-yourself project or get a contractor to do the work.

If you have lots of space, a walk-in closet is best but for a smaller room, a built-in closet is ideal. What matters most in doing this project is to use quality and durable materials. After all, you’re keeping your very personal stuff in this closet so you would always want to protect them as much as possible, right?

Closets are vital storage spaces notably for clothes, shoes and other personal items. But if storage space is your concern, remodeling existing closets are better than adding new ones which can cost you more. A closet remodeling project can actually be less expensive than you thought.

When considering a closet remodeling work, an important step you should take is to assess your existing closet and your need for extra storage space. Find out for yourself if your clothes and other accessories can no longer fit in the closet and you have a hard time finding some of your personal things. Start organizing then and retain only those things that you still need. You can dispose of unnecessary stuff by donating them to charitable organizations or selling them in a garage sale.

Some of the remodeling techniques in expanding small closets include creating a series of shelves that stretch up to the ceiling. With several small shelves, one can easily separate items and enable you to get things that you need easily. Installing double-decker rods in a certain part of the closet helps in increasing space for short items. Using special modules is also a good idea. You can install slots and shelves for shoes, drawers or cubbies for folded clothes and built-ins for other personal stuff.

Keep in mind to provide light to your closet to help you sort the right colors especially for your clothes. And don’t just consider soft lighting but opt for a bright one. Proper lighting will help you sort your blacks from your blues well because in soft lighting, you can mistake one for the other.
