The importance of storing your garden tools correctly are simple; ease of locating, finding them, and longer garden tool life.

Some large garden tools can still be dealt with, in the case of hoes for examlpe they can be turned upside down and hung from the business end or you can stand shovels up. Don't forget your garden hoses and extension cords, a reel is idea for this and prevents tangles too.

Garden Tool Shelving/Basket Racks - Face it not all Garden Tools where made to be hung up. Whether too big to hang, to dangerous (chainsaws) or they come with lots of add onsin kits. Garden Tools like these are best organized on shelves or in basket racks that you place on the wall of your garden tool shed or garage. If it's not possible to have a wall mounted racking system for your garden tools, then when choosing a umberella garden tool rack see it has baskets. Fact is a free standing garden tool rack won't deal with all heavy tool like chain saws, weed trimmers but will manage most others.

Garden tool carts are also an option. A garden tool cart is a great complement to any other storage method you use. It can provide more storage space for your garden tools, as well as make moving your gaarden tools to the garden easier, some even have a bench feature to allow you to sit on them taking some of the pain out of gardening for older people. Look for solid constructions and good wheels that roll easily.

Places garden tools can be stored:

Garages and Sheds are the most usual location to keep your garden tools but not eveyone has this option. Lots gardeners live in condos or in flats, so what are their options? For apartment/flat/condo gardening a small wall mounted garden tool rack or a free standing garden tool system that will fit on their patio placed into a corner may be the best idea .

A tool shed - Is a small building built especially to organize your garden tools. Most gardeners do not require one, but if they are lucky enough to have one or the space for one all the better.
They can be expensive, but they do come in many sizes, from something that fits up against the house or a stand alone shed that will store large things like mowers and snow blowers. You can use any of the above methods to organize your garden tools in a shed. You can pick from a wide range of metal, polyvinyl or wood storage sheds, keep your budget in mind and you can also look for second hand sheds too.

Tips on garden tool organization:

-- Sorry but here's those nasty words again Be Organized. Get in the habit of not just tossing your garden tools into your garage or tool shed when you are finished with using them. Take time to put store them correctly and this way you will be able to find them again. Plus it makes things in general safer for everyone.

-- Inventory the Garden tools you have, keep a small note pad with a list, nothing fancy. Why waste money buying another shovel because it is lost in the shadowy depths of the shed A list is also a good place to write down any garden tools that you lend out, insuring you know where they are and increasing the chances of getting them back.

-- You should try to clean your garden tools before you put them away, have a stiff brush hanging along side so you can swipe them off. This will keep things cleaner and neater and extend the life of both the garden tools and your garden tool rack.

-- If you need to use a tool often during a particular period in the garden season, don't store them in the innermost part of your shed. Keep them handy.

-- Keep a file handy to sharpen your shovels and to file off any rough edges that may develope.
