? Metal roofing – These are steel panels either with exposed or hidden fasteners. This can be coated with zinc or a mix of zinc and aluminum to prevent occurrence of rust. This is another durable material which can last up to 50 years. They come in various styles, colors and finishes.

? Roll roofing – This is less costly than the shingle with either a smooth surface or one covered with mineral on a heavy felt base. When applied properly, this can last from 10 to 20 years.

? Clay tile – This material made from clay or concrete is very durable because it can last for up to 50 years. Its shape may be flat or round and may have a glossy surface. It comes in reddish brown, blue and green.

? Wood shingle – Made of cedar, this comes in a flat shape with a smooth texture and with a thickness of ˝ inch. This is harder to install, though. Wooden shingles or shakes have a lifespan between 15 and 20 years although they can last up to 30 years if properly maintained.

? Flashing – This refers to strips of sheet metal used in making waterproof joints on a roof. Sometimes called a boot, they are usually sealed using the flashing sealant.
