Designing Lesson From Last Issue

Welcome to another great issue of your landscaping and garden design newsletter.

I've been holding out on sending this newsletter because I was going to announce a project that I've been working on.

However, it looks like it's still going to be a while until it's ready. I'll just send out another broadcast to let you know when it's done.

Sorry this issue is so long coming.

Let's get going.

Landscaping Lesson - Breaking The Flow

This lesson is one that I'm currently drawing for a client. It's actually just one part of the entire design which is a huge project. So I'm going to make a three part lesson out of it.

This lesson we'll look at the design of half of the front yard. The pattern of this design is very simple and if you can see that, I think you'll get some good ideas from it. And you'll understand what I mean by breaking the flow.

Successful Mulching Practices

Since this newsletter first came out over four years ago, I've personally written every article, story, review, and lesson that has gone into it. So I'm real excited to have this "guest article" which was written especially for this issue by an expert gardener in another part of the world. Cool huh?

When Jonathan Radford emailed me a sample of his work and asked if he could write for our newsletter, I immediately saw an opportunity to expand the "flavor" and diversity of the newsletter. It also eases my work load.

I hope you enjoy Jonathans writing as he has already written another article for next issue. You can read "Mulching For Success" at:

Design And Plan Books

I just wanted to throw this in. It may keep you from making the same mistake I did and possibly save you some m-o-n-e-y.

I have a passion for garden and landscaping books. Even if I never look at them or read them. I just like having them. You know...just in case I need some inspiration.

This past month I added three new design books to my collection and actually should have saved my m-o-n-e-y on two of them.

New Landscaping Pictures Gallery

Over the last few months I've noticed several new sites popping up that are actually s.e.l.l.i.n.g galleries of landscaping pictures. While there are some decent images in their galleries, I personally don't think they compare with even my little gallery of pictures. Well, at least you shouldn't have to p.a.y to look at them.

As I looked into it I discovered some of their sources which are practically giving these photos away. So I got several thousand of them and posted them on my site where they are f.r.e.e for you to look at and get ideas from.

So in addition to the original landscaping pictures gallery at:

we have a new gallery of different sorts at:

New Service - Find A Designer In Your Area

While The Landscape Design Site does a pretty good job of helping folks design and install their own landscaping projects, some people will still end up needing the help of a professional. If not for their entire project, for certain parts of it.

While there are several reasons why you might need the help of a professional, finding a good one with a good reputation is often more difficult than it should be.

So I've added a form to the site that will put you in contact with a pre-screened reputable company in your own area. There's no cost or obligation. Who knows. Using a professional may be less than you think. You can find the form at:

Garden Design Plans

For those of you who need an easier way to come up with planting schemes, this next article may be helpful. It's about pre designed planting schemes and how to use them in an economical way. See the article at:

Last Issues Landscaping Lessons

You can see the last two issues at:
Design 3
Design 4

Also, you can see all the examples, lessons, and plans that are online at:

That's all for this issue.
