Depending on its purpose and functionality, a small entryway courtyard like this could be seen as either crowded or cozy and inviting. As just a front entry corridor, an excess of garden decor may not seem over crowded or busy. However, as a gathering area, it may just be too busy and cramped.
While proportion and space are very important considerations in landscaping and garden, and especially small garden spaces, there are slight varying degrees according to purpose and functionality. A densely planted vegetaive area with a lot of decor may make a cool trail or entryway garden but may not allow enough space on the small front entry courtyard for a comfortable gathering or relaxing area. Again, it has a lot to do with purpose and intended function.
