Generally, landscaping is designed to accent the home rather than hide it. However, in some instances, the norm isn't what is needed to create the atmosphere or element desired. While the design around this front porch is designed to leave an open view and accent the entry, a different owner may want more privacy while enjoying their front porch. Most often, taller plants would be used to create this.

While using taller plants near the home will create a different private atmosphere, it also creates a safety issue. Imagine this porch area on a dark night completely hidden by tall bushes and shrubs. A prowler could take their time getting in through the windows without ever being seen or even lay in wait. Keep this in mind when planting around all of your homes doors, windows, front porches, and other entries.
