This front yard gravel driveway and surrounding landscape do a good job of keeping the existing slope and hillside in place. And at the same time, the idea follows some good xeriscaping principles which include water use based plant placements and appropriate weed fabric and ground covers.
In many cases and for different reasons, gravel isn't always the best choice for driveway ideas and designs on slopes and hillsides. As long as the size of gravel is matched with the depth of angle, groundcover gravel will work great for areas that don't get a lot of traffic. However, in steep sloped hillside designs that do get a lot of traffic such as garden paths and walkways and also drive way ideas, the gravel usually ends up pushed to the bottom of the hill with the landscape fabric underneath torn and useless.
