One thing I always notice about Japanese garden bridges like this and other elements is what makes them look Japanese. Even if it was placed in another garden, the colors and designs would give the feel and atmosphere of a garden with an influence from japan or the Orient. Of course, in this picture, the surrounding elements play a big part in how this landscaping looks and feels.
